Welcome to The Butchers Dog. Our establishment is a local family-owned real ale pub staffed by a passionate team who work to bring you a friendly and welcoming atmosphere that larger chains and breweries are lacking.
With a continuously evolving selection of local real ales available at the bar, we aim to provide our customers with a distinctive array of options to choose from.
Complementing this is our array of both keg and box ciders and selection of spirits, not to mention pub staples such as Old Peculiar and the new addition of Murphy’s Irish stout to our cellar.
If you are one of the many who can not or do not partake in alcohol, then we do our very best to supply you with both gluten-free and alcohol-free products.

Why the
Butchers Dog?
As a truly old-school pub, The Butchers Dog is built on the back of decades of micro brewing heritage and the history behind the present site which spans back 500 years. The Butchers Dog has a particular mix of British pub culture and history to thank for its name, such as The Butchers Arms, the very first UK micropub, and the more personal story of a mischievous dog successfully thieving a string of sausages from the local butcher and fleeing down Driffield’s main street, this story, regardless of validity or embellishment, struck us as the perfect inspiration for our logo and thus the Butchers Dog came to be.
Though our original site at 24 Middle Street was a historic and welcoming one for the first years of the pub’s life, we eventually moved to the more spacious location of the former “Middle Pub” in 2021. Despite the new building’s long history we decided to keep the name “the Butchers Dog” but many still remember it as “The Old Falcon”.
Thankfully the new location still contains a connection to our name, this time in the iteration of “The Dog and Duck” (the original name of pub on this site). The building is a piece of Driffield from nearly 200 years ago, seemingly this town has always had a love of dogs and pride in its pubs and it is nice to think that even back then they were saying “I’ll meet you down at The Dog” just as they do today.
All our beers are carefully sourced from across the region and beyond, and we strive to offer something to please every real ale enthusiast. In compliment to our ales and ciders we offer wine, spirits, continental beers, Gluten free & vegan options along with non alcoholic beer and soft drinks
